Texans Can Stop Themselves from Driving Drunk with These Apps

Looking for an easy way to avoid getting a DWI? Believe it or not… there’s an app for that.

Actually, there are several. In this post, we’re going to tell you about a number of different apps that have been designed to help people harness technology to make better drinking decisions and hopefully avoid a DWI.

Ready to learn what they can do for you?

Apps that Help You Avoid a DWI Charge

Here are our picks for the top apps that will help you out.

AlcoDroid

If you are an Android user, this app helps you track you drinking stats. You can chart your drinking habits over time and set goals.

Alcohoot

This app works along with an external portable breathalyzer. It offers a recommended blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit for your age, height, weight, and gender. It will track your data for you, and you can use it to find a ride home if you’re too drunk to drive.

Breathometer

As with Alcohoot, you need an external device to use this app. It boasts accurate results that come close to what the police would find on a breathalyzer if you are pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. The app will estimate when you will be sober enough to drive home. You can also find a ride or a hotel through the app.

DrinkTracker

If you are an iOS user, this is the app for you. The app calculates your BAC according to your age, height, weight, and gender. As you log your drinks, the app shows you your BAC. The only downside is remembering to add drinks while you’re drinking, which can be harder to do as the night progresses.

ENDUI

Both iOS and Android users can download this app, which works as you log your drinks. You’ll get an estimated BAC level as you keep logging. You can also experiment with the app’s reflex games.

Have A Plan

This is a multifaceted app which tracks BAC, allows you to play reflex games, and helps you call a cab or saved contacts for a ride home.

Apps that Help You Avoid a DWI Charge

Hailo

If you live in the city, Hailo will hail a cab for you. It’s a faster and easier way to find a cab after you’ve had too much to drink.

SaferRide

This app features three easy buttons to help you get home safely. You can use it to call a taxi, call friends, and find your current location.

Get Help If You are Charged with a Texas DWI

What if you got charged even after taking these precautions? An experienced Texas DWI attorney can help you fight your charges.

The sooner you call a knowledgeable criminal lawyer, the better. They will want to gather as much information as possible from the scene of the arrest, because what they find could be key to getting your charges reduced – or dropped altogether.

Here are the various defenses a skilled attorney may be able to use in your case:

Lack of probable cause

Police can only pull you over for a traffic violation. If they pulled you over on the basis of race, ethnicity, or any other reason, your charges can be dismissed.

Miranda rights violations

If you did not hear the police read your rights to you at the time of your arrest, your case could be dismissed.

Incorrect police observations

A law enforcement officer may have arrested you on incorrect observations. Your bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, or poor field sobriety test results may be due to physical impairments, not alcohol use.

Breathalyzer test inaccuracies

There are many ways to contest breathalyzer results, including improper calibration, improper use, and false positives due to foreign substances.

Mishandled blood test

The police will take a blood sample at the station after your arrest. If the blood sample is mishandled in any way, your results could be skewed, and your case will be thrown out.
